Seasons

JOHN HORSLEY

"Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy" (Acts 14:17).

The changing season reminds me of two things. First, snow and cold are not too far away. Second, change is the one thing that never changes.

We know that with time the seasons will change. Although, as much as we are certain that after summer comes fall and then winter, we are uncertain of what day snow will come and how much we will get. Change is certain, but how and when and how much remains uncertain.

Our spiritual life has its seasons as well. There was the season that God first called us to himself. This season was where we first believed in Jesus and the excitement of living with God. There are seasons of struggle, and in these seasons we learn to rely on God more. There are also seasons of blessing and refreshing where we learn to praise God for his goodness.

Seasons with God are always changing--this is also certain--but with each season comes newness and growth that continues to move us ever closer to him. Embrace the season you’re in right now and enjoy its beauty just as we enjoy the physical beauty of our lovely fall.
