Gratitude

BETHANY TIPPIN

Repetition is something I notice. It is a place I lean into and ask God, “Why is this coming up again?” I encountered an equation I’ve never seen three times in the last 24 hours, with slightly different labels. Basically, it’s this:

Satisfaction, Contentment, or Happiness equals what you have divided by what you want.

Instead of questioning the equation, I found the leading of God unto my heart pointing out that if I am not aware of how much I have, I will always land in a place of deficit. Additionally, want and desire grow giant when left unchecked.

So, I head into Thanksgiving holding the weight of gratitude, not as a platitude or a decorative list, but as a necessity for my mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Gratitude has the power to tip this equation toward the positive.

My greatest gratefulness is for a God who is Father, friend, companion, Guide, Advocate, and Teacher who banished loneliness forever and remains accessible to me in all times and places. I hope you have this same thankfulness and that it is just the beginning of a very long list for both of us.

What are you grateful for today?
