Burning Bright

JOHN HORSLEY

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

I was wondering what it looks like to "let your light shine before men" in the spiritual sense. Can a person really see your spiritual light? I don't think there is a physical light to see, but there is a spiritual sense of "seeing" with which everyone is born.

Each of us can spiritually see the difference between darkness and light. It is in the spiritual sense that we instinctively know what is good and what is bad. As we grow, we are attracted to both. Our carnal nature draws us to darkness, and God's grace draws us to light.

As I looked at this cloud, and the beautiful brilliance of the billowing gold cloud coming out of the gray clouds, it reminded me that believers and true followers of Jesus are just as brilliant, billowing up brightly in a dark world. Light will always penetrate the darkness and shine brightly.

Why is this important to understand? Because it is one way God reaches into the heart of someone lost in spiritual darkness. Crying out spiritually for light, for goodness, for God, they find guidance to Him through the light in us. We believers are here to shine a light on the path to God for those who are seeking.

May you be filled with the fiery light of Christ today.
